Draft Fred

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

The Loft ran an article about Fred Thompson possibly running for President.  God I hope so because frankly I’m less than thrilled with any of the already declared candidates.

Here’s the story

Here’s the petition urging Thompson to run.  I’ve already signed it, please join me in signing it as well and pass the word.

Endorsements

Cumberland County Republicans aren’t the only ones who have a rift within their party - read here.  The more times candidates are willing to run against the elitists who think this is still 1900 and deals can be done in smoke-filled backrooms, the better off the party will ultimately be and the less important the party will become.

Waste

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I’m turning my target back to state government.  A story ran in the Trib on PSAs, which are nothing more than public paid campaign expenditures.  I’m not sure where I read it, but I agree that Reps shouldn’t be doing this to advertise for executive branch functions and programs.

Here’s the paragraph that caught my attention:

Stephen Miskin, a spokesman for House Republicans, denies any abuse. He said the ads inform people of new or little-used state programs, and lawmakers’ offices are swamped with calls from constituents seeking help after they run.

My question is, if there are little-used state programs, why is the state running these programs at all - shouldn’t they get rid of them, instead of encouraging more people to use them?  But then again, what do I know, I’m just some ignorant kid, right?

Cumberland County Ballot Position

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Here’s the ballot position for the GOP Commissioner’s race for those junkies out there that care:

1. Karen Gunnison

2. Gary Eichelberger

3. Bruce Barclay

Personally, I’ve never taken much stock in ballot position.  At the county level and up it really doesn’t matter that much.

300

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I just came back from seeing the movie 300.  What an awesome movie.  I put it in the same classification as Gladiator, The Patriot, and Braveheart - courage films.  This is a story about courage, about being outnumbered and yet facing the opposition anyway.  It’s easy to go along with the majority - it’s safe.  It take courage though to not only face the opposition, but to fight it until the end.

Fake blog

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

I just received an e-mail from Christian Muniz who let me know that the blog with his name on it is not his - Someone is using his name.  He did have an idea of who, another Democrat that doesn’t care for Christian.  I’ll let you figure out who.

Frankly, I don’t have much respect for imposters - it’s rather Ron Harper-ish.

GOP Dinner Comments

Christian Muniz recently started a blog focused on Cumberland County politics.  He had some interesting comments on the picture that appeared in the Sentinel this week.

Check it out here.

Cumberland County Politics

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

I have a small update on the Commissioners’ race here in Cumberland County.

First, I found out that Ray Zaborney is Karen Gunnison’s campaign manager.  Let’s see, hire the guy that almost lost Shuster’s seat, then goes on to do a great job with Swann’s campaign.  Smart move there by the establishment candidate.

Blog Spam

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Ok, I’m ticked off at the idiot who keeps spamming my blog with links to a search engine.  Some asshole thinks it’s a great way to market I guess.

Ballot Access

I saw this article below from Ballot Access News.  Does anyone have information on who the co-sponsors are?

Fourteen Pennsylvania Legislators Introduce a Bill to Further Restrict Voting Rights

February 15th, 2007

On January 30, fourteen Pennsylvania Representatives introduced HB 48, which says that write-in votes are void if they are cast for a candidate who was removed from the ballot because his or her petition was insufficient. The sponsors include 8 Democrats and 6 Republicans. The Democrats include Babette Josephs, chair of the committee that will hear the bill (the Committee on State Government).

The bill seems to contradict a 1905 decision of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Oughton v Black, 61 A 346. On page 348, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said that the state constitutional provision that elections be “equal” would be violated if voters were not permitted to write-in anyone they please. The Court said, if write-ins were restricted, “the election (as to the voter who cast a write-in vote) would not be equal, for he would not be able to express his own individual will in his own way.”
